Clemons Missing At Practice

Chris Clemons was missing today at practice after Jim Johnson stressed how important is was that he practice.
Johnson talked about how important the upcoming game is for the defensive ends.

“This is a big game for [DE Jerome McDougle], no question about it, [DE] Bryan Smith and of course, hopefully, [DE] Chris [Clemons] is going to be healthy. I’m not sure right now. It’s going to be a little bit tough. I’m not going to get down into numbers and how many we are going to keep and all that. It’s probably one of the things we’re going to have to decide after this game, no question.”

Before practice, Johnson talked about Clemons.

“We want him to be out there. It is important to Chris. We’ll have to see day by day. I don’t know how hard he can go, but he needs to get out there and he needs to practice.”

Just a hunch, but it sounds to me like he's really hurting and is pissed off they don't believe him. What else could it be?

For what they're paying him, I can't believe that they'd cut him that quickly.

I really want to see what he can do as a regular starter in a JJ defense. I think he could be a sack machine in this type of aggressive, attack from all angles defense.

He is injured according to all reports I have seen...cannot practice

Maybe he already has some inside word (or a gut feel) that he is going to be IRed and doesn't see the need. If not he isn't helping his stock. Maybe you can trade him based on a # of plays he gets later in the year, after his injury is fixed, type deal.

I'd IR him barring any major injuries in the last preseason game. McDougal is most likely gone after this season anyway no matter what he does here. If his salary is too high for this year I suppose that he might just get cut. I heard that he's guarenteed $4 million this year?

Clemons had a $4mm signing bonus. McDougle is guaranteed $900k this year. Base salary.

Again, wouldn't you prefer that the Eagles keep the better player over the one they've invested money in?

This is very reminiscent of the Ed Wade Phillies. They'd give the guy with the guaranteed contract basically a job for life. I never thought David Bell would leave.
