  • NFL schedule changes due to Hurricane Ike

Due to the evacuation going on in the Houston area with Hurricane Ike, the Ravens/Texans game has been moved to Monday night.

NFL.com announcement (scroll down a bit)

We need not worry about the Eagles/Cowboys game being blacked in and near Baltimore (or Houston); the Ravens/Texans game will be shown on the CBS affiliates in the primary and secondary markets of the two teams, while the Eagles/Cowboys game will remain on ESPN. The primary/secondary market statement means the Ravens/Texans game will be shown on Channel 13 in Baltimore, Channel 9 in Washington, Channel 21 in Harrisburg, and possibly the CBS affiliate in Salisbury, MD, as well as the CBS affiliates in Houston and other parts of southeast Texas.

The NFL and Houston Texans have announced Reliant Stadium suffered some damage during Hurricane Ike and the necessary repairs cannot be done before Monday night. A decision about whether the game will be rescheduled again and/or moved to another site has not been made yet.

FWIW, after their game against the Ravens, the Texans are scheduled to be on the road for the next 2 weeks and don't have another scheduled home game until October 5th.

Like they couldn't see this one coming. You would think that they would have had plans ahead of time.

Perhaps they did but they haven't made a formal announcement yet. We'll find out.

My bet is on the game being relocated to San Antonio and being played on Monday night, if there isn't an event at the Alamodome.

It looks like Dallas is getting belted to right about now. What a mess.

Re: Texans/Ravens game to not be played in Houston this weekend

I looked at the NFL schedule, and here's a possibility that may be likely to happen:

            1) Houston has its bye week on 10/26, while Baltimore has its bye week on 11/9.
            2) Cincinnati is scheduled to play at Houston on 11/9.
            3) Cincinnati's bye week is on 10/26, the same as Houston's.
            4) Cincinnati has home games on both 10/19 and 11/2.
            5) The Cincinnati at Houston game is moved from 11/9 to 10/26, the Baltimore at Houston game is moved from 9/14-9/15 to 11/9, and Cincinnati's bye week is moved from 10/26 to 11/9.

If the Bengals agree to move their game against the Texans from 11/9 to 10/26, I think the above scenario is a likely possibility, if the Baltimore/Houston game isn't moved to a different site on Monday.

It could happen Chip. I suppose the amount of damage to the roof and how quickly it can be fixed will factor in. I hope that they don't get stuck as bad as the Saints did a few years ago.

If they were playing a more media friendly team (i.e. the Giants) they would just move it there.

Chip, that's seems like an awful lot of shuffling when there are probably other sites around. We have precedent in the last couple of years of moving the site. Saints after Katrina was moved to NY and that SD/ARI game that was moved from SD to ARI because of the wild fires.

Nice call; that is exactly what happened.

The league said in a news release that alternate sites for the Texans-Ravens game were considered, but logistics made them impossible

Re: Texans/Ravens game to not be played in Houston this weekend

I got screwed because of this last-minute decision in my Fantasy League. I have the Ravens as my defense, and I don't have a back-up defense. Our league's free agent pick-ups are every Saturday morning. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to Fantasy football, or maybe I would've thought about this in advance. I didn't hear that actually postponing the game was an option leading up to that decision, though.

You should look at the waiver wire and just announce to the league you are picking up Team X.

Then have the commish manually add your points. This is the fair thing to do.

It's not our league is it?

This morning the Commish let me pick up the Panthers off the waiver wire. Fortunately I'm playing the league commissioner this week, so there won't be any bitching.
