Redskins sign former MVP Alexander

On the trade deadline day, the Washington Redskins made headlines of their own without trading a player.

The Redskins signed former NFL MVP running back Shaun Alexander to a one-year deal and punter Ryan Plackemeier. Both players will be reunited with Redskins coach Jim Zorn, whom they worked with in Seattle.

I haven't seen any reports of an injury to either of the them. This is a strange signing on the trade deadline... leave it to Danny!!

Jason La Canfora, of The Washington Post, reports the Washington Redskins said RB Ladell Betts (knee, hamstring) will miss at least two weeks because of a strained lateral collateral ligament and a strained hamstring.

Yeah, I was gonna say Betts is hurt. Good signing for the Skins. If Alexander looks like he has a bunch left, they keep him. If not, dump him when Betts is back healthy.

No risk for the skins here since they signed him to the Vet minimum & no bonus.When Betts comes back in three weeks they can say adios to S.A.

We should've done this. He's a definite short-yardage upgrade over everyone, with the exception of Westbrook.

Could have been a nice fill in, especially since we were dumping Hunt anyway. He could be a short yardage guy, like Hunt was supposed to be, and couls probably be useful for a larger role in spots if needed. Anyone know what the Skins paid? I can't imagine it was much.

The fact that the news of Alexander's signing was publicized before the injury news was released makes me think that the skins might actually be doing things the right way. Is Zorn the guy who will finally get these idiots turned around?

He is basically an Andy Reid Clone.

We'll see how Zorn does in the second half of the season after there's extensive film on his coaching available. The Rams already figured out how to beat him.

Well in order to make room for Alexander they need to release someone to make room on the roster. When Betts comes back Alexander takes up a roster space, and he ain't playing special teams.
