    Trotter slams McNabb
John Gonzalez wrote a column in this morning's Inquirer about comments Donovan McNabb made last week on WIP.

McNabb's ex-teammate Jeremiah Trotter was a guest on The Morning Show today and ripped into McNabb, saying the Eagles quarterback has never taken the blame when the team comes up short.

Trotter added that he believes McNabb wants out of Philadelphia.

"I really believe it's time for Donovan to just go to another team," Trotter said. "Donovan is a great quarterback. He is in the top five. He has been for a long time, but I believe he'll play even better if he's happy. I don't think Donovan wants to be here. Donovan is not going to come out and say it, which I think people would respect him more if he came out and just told the truth. But I think he tells everybody else one thing when he does his press conference and post-game interviews and he throws little comments out there. Donovan really doesn't want to be an Eagle. I don't think he's ever been happy there."

Trotter took issue with McNabb on a variety of topics, saying he hasn't come up in clutch situations.

"In this league, you're gonna get put in positions where you gotta come through at specific times," Trotter said. "And I always say the great players come through in great moments, and he hasn't prove to come through in those times when the team really needs him."

When asked if that's how McNabb's current teammates feel about him, Trotter answered, "Without a shadow of a doubt."

In last week's interview, McNabb said the Cardinals' final scoring drive in the NFC championship reminded him of the Eagles-Rams championship game in 2002. McNabb said both teams ran the ball at the end of the game because they were "terrified" that the Eagles' offense would get the ball back.

"I don't know what offense he's talking about but I don't think anybody's terrified," Trotter said.

When asked specifically about the Rams championship game, Trotter pulled no punches.

"Well first of all, defense was the only reason we was in the championship game. That's first thing," he said. "Second thing is we was going against the top-rated offense and they was going against the worst offense. I mean they was going against the worst defense so they should have at least 60 points on them guys."

Trotter said nobody should be surprised by McNabb's comments about the defense, adding that he has never taken responsibility for playing poorly.

"I don't think a lot of people are gonna be surprised by the comments, him throwing the defense under the bus," Trotter said. "A lot of people are not gonna be surprised. They understand Donovan and you know, Donovan has never really taken the blame for playing bad. ...You'll never hear Donovan say 'I played bad. I gotta do a better job.'"

And finally, Trotter said McNabb probably wouldn't have made these comments back when he was on the team.

"Nobody on the team is going say anything to him. He's Donovan," Trotter said. "They don't want any controversy, but I really don't think he would have said those things if myself, Hugh [Douglas] or Ike [Reese] had been on the team."

I fully believe this. DMac might say something superficial about "doing a better job" and "studying the film and getting better" but his comments lately have been more self-deflection. He wants no part of the blame when the Eagles lose.

I'm not sure how anyone can defend him throwing the defense under the bus regarding the NFCCG.

I mean, Dawkins apologizes to the fans while McNabb says "nope, not me, defense's fault."

    WTF?

FYI, in case you missed it:

"We were up, 25-24," McNabb said. Then, in case people missed it the first time, he repeated it for good measure. "We were up, 25-24. [The Cardinals] drove down 72 yards by running the ball - probably, what, eight times? And it reminded me so much of [the NFC championship game in] St. Louis where, coming back in that second half, they ran the ball nine times with Marshall Faulk to keep our offense off the field. Because they were terrified of us going back out and scoring more points."
And before someone says "what's the big deal?" ... well, it's a big deal to former players like Douglas and Trotter. So I'm gonna go ahead and take their stance over yours.

Music to my ears. Trotter said what I believed all along. The players don't believe in Mcnabb, especially in late game situations.

This is a real heck of an indictment. While I hate these former players feeding the toxicity I hate this.

Trotter was very much insulted by that Rams comment. And of course Cataldi preyed on his emotion. Ugh.

I know Hugh is now a WIP guy so he loves to stir the pot but can someone remind me if Trotter has a grudge?

You discount things certain players say (like Freddie Mitchell) but iirc, Trotter has never come out with this type of stuff before?

IMO this is absolute horseshit.McNabb didn't come out and say the D lost that game! Dawkins said the exact same thing after the 'Zona loss:"After we took the lead 25-24 it was OUR job to get off the field & we didn't get the job done".Guys like Hugh,Ike,and now Trot need to STFU.It's strictly fodder for the WIP morons that have a totally different agenda than the task at hand:Win a frickin SB!
Just give me ONE before I go!

Seemed to me that Donovan DID lay the loss at the defense's feet. Dawkins took resonsibility, which is what you would expect him to do. And time and time again, when we KNOW the offense lost the game for us, Dawkins has said that as a defense, and he imself could have done someohting more, made that extra play, to help this team win. Don't feed me some bullcrap about how Donovan was in the right here.

As for Trotter and his coments. I hope he's wrong. Esprecially about Donovan wanting out, and about the team not believing in him. If true, DOnovan needs to go. And that is not what I want.

j-bird: Dawkins is ALLOWED to say that. It's his defense. What if he came out after a loss and said "well, we did hold them to 13 points." implying that the offense didn't put up enough to win?

Dawk would get crucified for it. (And rightly so.) But he doesn't do that because he knows better.

Trotter has always been a jerk. Douglas too. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in this stuff.

Eagle60 - what makes you say that about Trotter?

I feel like he left town on bad terms (the first time around) and then made up with the Eagles. There were lots of stories of him appreciating his second chance with the Eagles, etc etc.

Short and sweet, and right on target!

JMHO but Trotter has never lost his grudge and is airing it out now in this, his audition for a job with WIP. It's fun to watch all the McHaters take the bait.
