  • OT Restaurant Suggestions

Coming to Philly in late March and will probably stay in Center City or University City. What places would people recommend? I am looking for something informal with real good food. Went to Villa di Roma a while back, and that was great. Does something like this exist around Center City? Italian would be great.
    Thanks in advance!

Fogo de Chao (Brazillian steakhouse) - http://www.fogodechao.com/locations/Philadelphia.htm

Malone's Back Room Cafe (this place has really good italian food and is basically a bar so definitely not formal) http://southphillyrecord.blogspot.co...room-cafe.html

Bliss (this place is a little more upscale--described as casually elegant--but I hear good things about it).

Here is what google has to offer.

I often stop in at the Butcher's Cafe in the heart of the Italian Market section.

        Good, honest Italian food.

My most favorite restaurant downtown is a little place called Friday Saturday Sunday. Great food. Not cheap but not expensive, either, and worth every penny.

If you throw a stick you'll hit a good Italian restaurant. Salento is good and not too pricey. If you don't mind paying a little more there's a place called Cafe Casta Diva near Rittenhouse Square that was very good but was cash only when we went. Another one called Melograno just moved to Sansom, across from Helium Comedy Club.

Also near Helium is an "Asian fusion" place called Mantra.

If you like Indian food there's an awesome place called Bindi that's closer to the heart of the city.

            (We live downtown )

Steve - I went there one day and ordered the wings...Now mind you - I love hot wings. Love them. I can usually process very hot sauces etc.

These were the hottest I've ever eaten:

Spanish Flies incredibly hot chicken wings w/chipotle pepper sauce that are not for the faint of heart. they aren't those wimpy 'buffalo wings' - these babies are HOT! HOT! HOT! Did I mention that they're HOT? we do offer barbecue sauce for the less adventurous. served with a side order of our famous frites

Monk's french fries with their mayo dipping sauce are unreal as well. They have terrific burgers and a bunch of shellfish entries.

Thanks again all. I think Monk's may have an insurmountable lead ... as in 27-3 at the half on December 28, 2008. Ahhh the memories ...

Good Dog on 15th near Locust has a pretty damn good burger and fries, but yeah, Monk's is awesome.
