  • Move over 64 Phils and 07/08 Mets.

I smell a monumental collapse in the making. They may be saved by the suckiness of the Braves and Fish, but they will make an early exit from the playoffs if they continue with this feeble imitation of an offense and with the Mental Case as the closer.

The starting pitching has been very good and thank God for Howard, but the rest of these guys are sleep walking and need somebody to kick them in the ass. I am so fucking sick off men being left on 3rd with less than 2 out by these 'slugger' assholes who don't know the meaning of 'giving themselves up'.

Have stopped listening to/watching games in order to avoid Involuntary Commitment.

Easy there Tino,Gene Mauch isn't throwing out Bunning & Short as starters.Three vs the Nats then Mets at home.
The Phils WILL get into the playoffs but the BP still(and should all Phils fans)have me concerned.Cholie has 3 weeks to look at Myers & see if he'll be the closer in October.I appreciate the loyalty he's shown Lidge but after 10 blown saves you gotta say "this guy sucks, sit his ass down".
I believe that will be a direct quote.
As Alex Trabek would say :"
    Not to worry!
Just give me ONE before I go!

No excuse for the Houston series. Maybe it will motivate them at the right time to get on thier horse but they damn well better be paying attention right now.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
      Hope is not a strategy
      RIP

          LT,

I stepped back from the 'Ledge' years ago. When the recent vintage Phillies go through a period of playing like the Phillies of my youth and early adulthood, I just stop paying close attention.

After 50 plus years, I have developed a personal plan for surviving as a Phils' fan:

          - Count on nothing.
          - Never talk smack.
          - When they are playing like shit, limit attention to box scores.
          - Consider any success a blessing to be cherished.

          J-Bird,
I came out of the '64 debacle a chastened man. I had hung on literally every pitch during those crushing 10 games and saw 4 of them at Connie Mack. I vowed never again to to allow someone or something, over which I had no control, to so thoroughly possess me. I've been 'mostly' successful at that.

the season is long. all teams go through rough stretches. they'll be OK.

They'll be fine in that they'll make the post-season. They won't go far though after that if they depend on Lidge.

This team will probably win 5 of 6 and Houston will be forgotten.

                  Step back from the Lidge!

This is the last display of crappiness from them for the year. They will come out of this, get hot the last three weeks.

Now the playoffs are a different story. They need to bring guys in from 3rd with <2 outs. And they need Myers to take over Lidges job. if that doesn't happen, they won't repeat.

                    Agreed.

This division is over. The only key call here is if Manuel gets the giant gahones to bench Lidge and promote Myers. That is what will win it for us. But he won't do it.

Not to go all 3rd person on y'all but since the Houston debacle? 7-2

And Lidge still gives up 1 run per outing minimum. It's almost insane. Madson is obviously not mentally able to close and Myers is supposedly tired so we'll have to lead every game in the playoffs by 3+ runs going into the 9th or have our startes go the distance. Otherwise - it will be a horrible postseason to watch.

Maybe J.A. Happ for closer! I think Madson can do it actually. I hope Myers can recover from this shoulder strain.

Looks like Happ may be in the postseason rotation with Pedro being more severly hurt than letting on.
