This is when prayer is most important.Originally posted by Eagle60 View PostIt's pretty obvious what I'm worried about, and when it comes down to it it is more important than the coach. To me the whole organization is in trouble from Lurie on down. I think he's making the same mistake with Roseman is he did with Banner. How many of the guys on this board are football nuts? How many of them are good at their jobs? I'd say most or all of us. Now ask yourself how many of us would you like picking our roster and conducting our draft and whatnot. I see a lot of bad football coming our way.

I will say I am extremely confident that if I was given the chance to run the Eagles draft I would be just fine. It's actually NOT rocket science. Despite what they want you to think.
You know a good football player when you see them. No need to over analyze it.You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Our FO is screwed up with or without Ron Jaworski. I'll tell you something though. I would feel a hell of a lot better with Jaws as GM instead of an accountant wannabe like we have now. In fact jaws' is the only opinion I'd pay 2 cents for from the clowns on that panel making the decision.Originally posted by FRESH View PostAnd here is the countepoint.....no, i didn't write it.

I love it when a Baseball writer tries to write about another sport. Total hack job by Murphy.
Jaws evaluation of QB's is meaningless in this process. Lurie wasn't asking him to find him a QB, he was asking him to help find a coach. Something that Jaws has been very successful at doing for the Soul. Also as an analyst for ESPN he has the chance to interact with every team in football. He gets to see a different side of the coaches.
In order to understand why Jaws you have to understand and look at what Lurie was saying. Lurie was looking for a coach that players can relate to, a coach that can help rebuild his franchise that is in shambles right now. He wants to get back to Philadelphia Eagles football and doesn't Jaws embody that? Of course Philadelphia Eagles football is for the most part losing football but that is for another day.
Anybody including the new Eagles Hack reporter Murphy has a problem with reaching out to a guy like Jaws they are delusional. You notice he didn't have anything to say about Polian being involved.
The correct article to write right now is not blasting the Eagles for reaching out to Jaws but asking the question WHY did they have to ask for Jaws and Polian? The underlying factor and I will be writing about this later is that Lurie did not feel he had enough football people in his organization so he had to reach out in this way. That is the concern. Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

I really don't understand all the hate for Roseman. We, as fans, don't have access to who Howie wants to pick in the draft or sign every off season. We assume he was involved with picking Watkins and Smith but we don't really know that. The guy who does is Jeff Lurie. He has stated that he keeps track of who each person likes and dislikes and why and tracks those players. He has come out and said Roseman has been one of the best at this aspect of the job. So my question is simple; why would he lie? What possible let benefit would he get from keeping a guy who can't pick and setting him up to fail and sett8ng up the fans for disappointment?
This is a multi-Billion dollar franchise. I don't think Lurie is going to bullshit the fans and jeopardize the franchise just because he likes Howie Roseman. He has to truly believe in his abilities and since he has the logbook on who he wants to pick and I don't, I don't have a choice but to believe him.Official Driver of the Eagles Bandwagon!!!

Because no coach is going to respect a guy who has never been involved in the game at any level. Most GM come up through the system just like Howie did. And lets not think we just plucked the guy out of Fordam,he has been with the team 16 years now. At what point and time does one become a football guy?Originally posted by Eagle60 View PostBecause no coach is going to respect a guy who has never been involved in the game at any level. So its really not that simple. And I hate to defend Howie but I think you are going way too far to the other side on it.Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

Really? I doubt it. I'll add that this is not an uncommon problem for NFL franchises. The FO guys like Howie begin to think they actually know more than the coach, and that's when the problems start. I'm sure that's what drove Chip nuts more than anything a couple of years ago-Howie constantly churning his roster. I'm sure he felt like Howie was a little kid playing fantasy football.
As for other teams' FO personnel I would suspect that most of them probably played ball at some level but I have no proof of that. All I know is that ever since I heard of Howie Roseman this franchise has been headed in the wrong direction and I cringe when I hear his name."Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"

I will say this, if you don't believe the coaches have a say in what goes on in personnel and Howie is a know it all, then there is no way Josh Huff would have been drafted over higher rated guys like Martavis Bryant and John Brown. There is no way Taylor Hart ever gets drafted. The coaches have a HUGE say in what talent comes into the team. Any GM will listen heavily to a coach because if the coach doesn't play the player , or develop the player then its the GM that gets blame.
And once again you ignoring that Roseman is not running the day to day operations. You are being blinded by your hatred for the guy. Blinded by what is truly going on here. I don't think this will be it for the changes. The front office is next. There will be more hires there. The coach was the first part of the equation. I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles go out and get a Tom Heckert type to fill the Lead Personel role. Roseman/Smolenski are more splitting the Joe Banner role.
I personally would have blown out Roseman to, but the more I look at it the more I understand why Roseman is here. Having a guy who really knows the cap is extremely valuable. I understand why Lurie wants him here. Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

Well in thatcase, maybe you should have a player, like Sam Bradford, sit in on the interview. Jaws is not a player nor has he been for an aeon.

[QUOTE=taz;280041]First of all, I don't "hate" Howie (but I do enjoy ragging on him). I guess that makes me some sort of "cyberbully" or something. I don't dislike you either taz, in fact I think you are a very good poster.Originally posted by Eagle60 View Post

Neither one of us knows exactly what goes on at the Nova Center so it's a guessing game that all of us love to play. But I do know human nature, and I have read quite a few books by players and coaches. I've also coached at the high school level and played in college so I've been around it. And I have been on this planet for 65 years which does give me some insight into how people think.
On all football teams there is jealousy. Everybody wants to be heard, everybody wants more power and there is a lot of backstabbing. I've seen it as a player, been part of it as a coach and have read about it in the pros.
Players in particular hate sportswriters and the front office personnel, and in most cases the owner. They just view them as wannabes. Assistant coaches have the knife in everybody's back trying to move up and I'm sure that's the case in front offices too. To tell you the truth I think dysfunction is the norm in most organizations.
With all that being said I'll now get around to Howie. First I'll ask you, do you think that it's been Howie's lifelong dream to write contracts for a professional football team? Do you really think that's what he wants to do? Do you think that he will be fulfilled doing that? I'll answer for you--of course not. He wants more.
As far as personnel goes that can go in all kinds of directions. Parcels left NE because of that. Kraft wanted some wide receiver and Parcels wanted some OLB so he left. So in that case you had the owner selecting, as Lurie did with Mamula and Tenn did years ago with Vince Young.
All of the people the Eagles were interviewing know enough football to be a HC. The fact that they chose DP does raise some eyebrows. Not because he isn't qualified because he certainly is. But why a nice young guy? And why did Coughlin just walk away?
It doesn't break my heart that Coughlin pulled out, but it sure raises a red flag as to why. I'm thinking that he just looked at the structure and wanted no part of it. Even more likely he looked at Howie and said to himself that there is no way that I'm going to be answering to this little twerp. And that is human nature."Hey Giants, who's your Daddy?"
