Demeco and Cooper are almost definite. Contract size vs production. Peters maybe but I would not be surprised if they did nothing there and cut him next year. Sproles is in danger because he is due 5 mill. He could get cut but I think more than likely dealt for a late round pick.

I believe with the rollover and such they still have like 18 mill under the cap and that is at 153. Word is it may go to 160. That is before cuts.

taz, I am convinced that the cap doesn't really exist any way. It's mythological.

Cooper is gone virtually for certain (he gets $1 million guaranteed on the 5th day of the league year, so the decision needs to be made before then). There is precious little reason to bring him back.

Ryans and Sproles I could see being back, but it might depend on what other cap needs we have. If we tag Bradford it could get tight, and tougher decisions could be made if they can't work out a long term deal (because the initial year hit would be a lot less in that case, at least usually).

I like Sproles-- a lot; but Barner can fill the role if need be so while I would like to see him on the team I can live with him leaving. Cooper is just another player--not good not bad. Anyone can fill that role. I like Ryans but he isn't worth a hell of a lot so I wouldn't go out of my way to keep him. I don't see him terribly hard to replace (although his leadership would be harder to replace). Peters really fell off I think but I have no idea if it was injuries or maybe coaching that did that. I know it is costly but I'd like to see them keep him another year.
If Howie keeps all these cats and then is able to keep Sam people are going to have to accept that he isn't a bad GM. If it all falls apart he will be eaten alive
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
          Hope is not a strategy

Maybe the casual fan will eat him alive but I won't. He already knocked off several things on my off season list. Curry, Lane and Ertz getting resigned. Those guys along with Fletch and a few others are the future of this team. If Howie lets go of Sam but gets a QB in the draft like a Wentz, Lynch, Cook etc. that Pederson and Company can develop then I don't think there is anything to be upset about with Howie. Now if he takes a fireman in round 1 then sure we should roast him. Lets let this thing play out and see where it goes. We are still very early in the process.

My concern with letting Sproles go has more to do with Mathews and the fool from Dallas. Neither of them has been a pillar of health and I hate to have to rely on Barner in the backfield. Sproles just stays healthy and plays well.

What to do with Sproles? You have to keep Murray. Maybe Matthews should go and we beat the hell out of Sproles for a year?

Looking at KC last year. they worked the hell out of Jamaal Charles before he got hurt then went with the back up who also got hurt before finally going to a RB by committee approach. I really see Murray being the guy. The question is who is the back up. Matthews contract is a goo done to take on but again the injury bug kills this guy. I think they keep all three before letting Sproles go after 2016. Barner is the odd man out. Huff might also be let go with Sproles taking the inside slot routes.

The issue right now is they have too much money committed to RB. Murray's cap hit would be too much to let go. Not sure about Mathews and honestly he isn't making that much money. Sproles I am sure they would want to keep but at 5 million its a huge dollar figure. I could see Sproles being let go and a young back being drafted late or a undrafted free agent pickup. Lets also not forget they are going to need to add a fullback in order to run the WCO.

I'd hate to see Sproles go. There's something to be said for veteran leadership, and I really don't like the idea of relying on Murray and Matthews. Sproles seems to be the one guy they can depend on. But, it is a money issue. Maybe they can re-work his deal, or something, but I have to agree they've got too much money tied up in the position.

Could they think about extending Sproles for another year of two to lower his cap hit? Like it or not they are stuck with Murray (another Chip special).

I don't know, but I think Murray is going to rebound. They need to get the offensive line straight, first and foremost, but he simply wasn't effective running out of the shotgun all the time. He's got some talent.

Murray will certainly be decent, especially in a different offense that won't have him running sweeps half the time. The problem is that he and Mathews are always hurt. Neither one is very durable.
And they both like to fumble!

I wonder, if Pederson were our coach last year, would we have held onto Shady, and Maclin? Just crosses my mind......

LOL. About the only good thing Chip did right was get Nick out of the way, but even that cost us a pick.
