  • Eagles vs Commanders observations

Well its a loss but a win. I will explain why. Resting a good bit of the players is really important. They need that reset. Plus the Commies win gets them a lower draft pick. Yes that matters. Sucks that the Lions beat the Bears but I think the Bears are smoking windows. Yes they crushed the Eagles but that was without Carter and a few others. If they have to play the Bears again I think they beat them doesn't matter its in Chicago.

    1. Mckee - Up and down game. Playing with 3rd and 4th string guys he delivered some really nice throws in this game. He did throw a few bad ones, the INT was really bad, he has to rip that throw to Granson on that 4th and 3. He rushed that throw and it floated on him. Overall you can see why the Eagles like him. I think he could start for a lower tiered team in this league.

    2. Bigsby - Ran really well in this game. He needs touches in the post season. They need to unless almost a 2 headed monster with Barkley.

    3. Cam Williams - really impressed him on offense . He was so much better than in the pre season. Again he played against Von Miller most of the game. Miller did get a sack really late. Overall it was nice to see him.

    4. Drew Kendall - Played pretty well at center. Not a ton of backs getting hit in the backfield like when Jurgens is in there. I would consider benching Jurgens for the playoffs. Again these guys were playing against Washingtons 1st team.

    5. The Cornerbacks- Ringo and Bennet were just horrible in this game. I don't know why they just didn't give McWilliams a chance outside. If I have it right they had 100yards in penalties on the DB and 17 points resulted in them. They were legit for the most part. However the officials were brutal this game, Will explain later.

    6. Trott Jr - Had a really good game. You could see his limitations though as far as speed goes. He just isn't fast enough but man is he a damn good depth piece

    7. Hunt - That INT look like he was a defensive back. Really athletic 3 Ints on the year, plus 6.5 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries. The future is bright for this young man.

    8. The Officiating - Extremely on sided in this game as its been all year. In fact there has only been one game the entire year where we had less penalties than the opponent. That is telling especially when you see teams committing penalties (hip drop tackles that injured a player, . there o line was holding really bad in fact Tucker called it out a few times no calls, they were allowed to be handsy with our WR but we got called for every one). I had the Eagles for 10 penalties 140 yards. The Commies 4 penalties for 20 yards. Three false starts and a defensive off side. Its was obvious Rodger and his script writers wanted the Eagles to lose this game. They didn't want any more than 1 home game at the Linc. Not sure why, but its been obvious all year that the officiating has been biased towards the Eagles. They are 29th in the league in penalties. This was a super bowl winner from last year. Its almost like the officials were upset that their boys the Chiefs lost to the Eagles and they were going to try and fix this one.

Overall I think we blow out the 49ers next week. I think the Packers are going to beat the Bears (not sure why but...) That puts the Eagles in a position to have a 2nd home game the Rodger and his script writer be damned.
Were from Philly F in Philly no one likes us we DON'T CARE!

    Gotta disagree some
Yes McKee was with bottom of roster guys and definitely will play better with better players but showed limitations on some throws. Every escape was to his right. Showed inexperience when he should’ve run for a first down when he started a scramble but forced a throw for an incompletion.
Didnt think Campbell had a great game but was just okay. He has a future though. Robinson the same. I agree OL played pretty well and was impressed with Williams. He has a bit of a nasty streak and doesn’t take shit. Brown is Brown and has peaked at backup/ST player.
Birds lost for a number of reasons but right there at top of
list was being at one or two yard line and calling two straight pass plays which went incomplete and turned the ball over early in game. I think it was after a turnover. You have a big QB who should be able to run a QB sneak and two RBs (Dillon and Bigsby) who can run through a line. Terrible play calls
cant agree with officiating cries. Those Philly PI penalties were terrible plays by the secondary. They were obvious. Holding goes on everywhere on both sides. WA can cry the same thing and if anyone watches the game again will see holds by the Eagle line which didn’t get called. They called a number of penalties on WA flinching which they should. Cooper taunting was as obvious at it gets The only real bad call was the hip drop and as NFL officials readily admit it is too hard for them to officiate and the just don’t call it. It is one of the penalties that the NFL sends out fines for rather than calling the penalty during the game. Which is just wrong.
Birds will struggle in playoffs if Hurts doesn’t step up his game no matter who they play. SF vulnerability is defense getting to Purdy.
Wait until next year is a terrible philosophy
    Hope is not a strategy
    RIP

Bigsby was killing them all game and I don’t think he had a touch after the 3rd quarter.

Our backup dbs are so bad. 2 TDs because of terrible PI. Both on bad throws too. Ringo and Bennet just brutal. McWilliams got on on the act. Sydney Brown is terrible. Gotta let Ringo, Bennet and Brown go in the off season. They’ve all been around long enough to be better than that.

we could have played starters and won. But it’s a flip of the coin on the Packers and Niners. Records between those two is all about schedule. Niners got the cupcake one.

wouldn’t shock me at all if it’s gby at sea and lar at phi in divisional round.

I agreed with not playing the starters in the beginning. But, when Detroit was up 16-0 with a 96% chance to win the game, I think you play some starters at the positions of biggest weakness and try and win the game.

Washington was crap. But, you can't expect to win by playing so many backups. I wish that Nick would have told some of the starters to be ready just in case. In the 2nd half, we really could have used our starters at least in the secondary (backups were awful). That was a very winnable game and the 2nd seed was there for the taking.

Time will tell. But, I hope this doesn't come back to haunt us. I'm not sure that I have ever seen a team play all backups with a real chance at a higher seed.

Tank is a stud. He and Barkley make a great 1-2 combination.

Ya think? Like it really would have hurt them if Mitchell and DeJean played one stinking quarter? I would like to take Dawk's post and plaster it in Siriani's face.

I can make an argument for both sides. I see the necessity to rest your best players and give them a weak to heal. Now, if they come out flat next week Nick and team are going to be questioned big time.

The one interesting thing to me was you can't rest everyone. A lot of our starters were at least dressed for the game just in case we ended up with injuries. At halftime, I think I would have reassessed. If I were a reporter covering the team that is the question I would be asking Nick today. Did you at least consider it and if so why not put some of the starters in. At least Quinon and DeJean. Maybe Baun too. Those guys in the back seven would have made a huge difference IMO.

Offensively, I guess you could have put JM in. And maybe Steen. There is a lot more risk in playing the OL no doubt. There was no need to play Saquon or Goedert. Dallas was inactive anyway. I would not have played Jalen either. And then I guess maybe you could have played AJ in the second half with DeVonte because he had already played.

This is what it is I guess.

I think there is at real chanced that the Bears get beat at home by the Packers. I know the Bears came in to our gym and kicked our asses but I am just not sold on them. That defense is not great. Caleb is good but is he great? And what will he look like in the playoffs. I don't fear going in there and playing.

I would love to see the Rams win and then go into Seattle and win but that would mean we'd get arguably the best team all year in the NFC coming into our house in the NFC Championship game.

We are the best team from a talent standpoint in the league. We have been all year and we are relatively healthy and now rested. If we played to our potential four the next 4 games we should win the chip again. Something tells me though we are going to come up short.

As for yesterdays game and some quick hitters.

              1. Matt Pryor stinks. Get him off the roster. You don't keep a 5-6 year veteran like him who clearly can't play. Just be done with him.

              2. Ty Robinson looks like a stiff. He plays too high and he is slow. He also looked to me like he was out of shape. If the Eagles let Ojomo walk I would not be surprised to see the Eagles go back to the well again and draft a DT in the first or second round.

              3. Hunt is better than Nolan Smith.

              4. That call on Cooper was weak sauce and that really decided the game IMO. If we get that first down, we are going to score a TD there and have the momentum. The Tanner McKee interception doesn't happen.

              5. The worst part of this game was McKee's stock dropped considerably. He made bad choices throughout the game. He looked inaccurate at times. He looked slow. Maybe now the play McKee crowd over Jalen argument will lose some steam. And I will admit I was even in the camp some.

              quick hitters.

Trotter looked good. Sydney Brown actually looked good although I'm not sure he is athletic enough. I didn't think Michael Carter played that bad in the secondary. I was impressed with the read and recognition of Jihad Campbell. And lastly I agree with Taz that Williams at RT looked like he has something. You cannot teach that size/speed combo. I will leave it up to Stoutland U but maybe we have the RT of the future. Jason Peters wasn't even drafted... he was constructed.

I think the Eagles win Sunday at home against the 49ers. That defense is not great. They are banged up a bit. I think it's like Eagles 27-16.

You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Agree on Pryor. He’s brutal. Is Ojomo a free agent?

williams and Kendall both looked good.

id really like us to focus on offense a little more in this draft. The D got most of the picks the last couple of years and we are feeling it. Need some depth and now have a choice on Goedert without a backup plan.

I’ve thought all along that the Niners and Packers are very even. Niners have the better offense. Pack have the way better D. Even without Micah. So I was all for resting. Still hard to watch. Especially the DBs.

I can totally see the Pack winning and us getting LA at home. But the way this Eagles offense has been, it’s hard to look ahead.

Dawk... I am a psycho so I actually am looking forward to watching this All22 and looking at Kendall, Robinson, and Williams. Pryor just stinks out loud.

Off the top of my head, I think Toth at least twice was a late reactor to a delayed blitz and double teamed the DT totally whiffing on the blitz. I think that was the play actually where Tank lifted the guy off the ground.

One more thing... Tank is not a free agent. He has one more year under contract I believe. Why in the world we wouldn't give Saquon 15-18 carries a game and take 6-8 is beyond me. Why would we not at least put them out on the field together?

You know Darren if you'd have told me 10 years ago that someday I was going to solve the world's energy problems I'd have said your crazy.... now lets drop this big ball of oil out the window.

Yea I called for some two back sets last year and again this year. They’ve done some but not much. I would hope whoever it is that sets the offense next year would incorporate more of that. Two backs with Devonta in motion the defense would have no idea of who the handoff was going to

This game meant nothing but everything. Quickly the back up DBs proved to us all that Adoree needed to start but also we need to draft or sign better backups The PIs were all legit but that play at the goal line by Ringo maybe the worst play I have ever seen!

McKee did not play well IMHO. He played with back ups last year in week 18 too. He missed some throws and the INT was just an awful decision.
Bigsby can play but we have all been saying that all year which leads to:
KP is just a terrible OC! Hurts or no Hurts! His playcalling especially in the red zone today was pathetic!

Last thing I agree that rest was more important than this game regardless of the score in Chicago. Eagles can beat 49ers and then go to Chicago and win there. But with KP they could also only score 13 points against a terrible 49ers defense!

Personally I’m not sure why anyone thinks the Eagles can just roll in anywhere and win. They have the talent but the offense hasn’t shown any ability to put together an entire game. Myself, I want no part of Chicago. It might be hard rain, it might be brutally windy, it might be blizzard like conditions, or the freakin fog might become pea soup at halftime and the team unable to function.
But that fate has been determined so Nick and Co better be at the top of their game starting 4:30 ET on Sunday. I hope the Packers send the Bears home

Playing our defensive backfield starters for the 4th quarter certainly wouldn't have destroyed them for the next three games. Siriani came out with a moronic answer that "it wouldn't be fair to ask them to play the 4th quarter" whatever the hell that meant. Lastly, how is Shipley even in the NFL? And to think we could have held on to Gainwell instead. You really blew that one Howie along with letting that really good defensive back that we had walk. Those two players alone would have won us the game.

You can’t take a bunch of cold starters and ask them to play. This isn’t like baseball where a guy can take a few stretches and come in.

SF I agree that the 4th quarter would not have been the time to put them in. What Nick could have done was told them before the game they'd do a pressure check at halftime on what the Lions-Bears game looked like. And then they'd have had 20 minutes to warm up and play in the second half. That didn't happen and that's OK. I understand not playing them.

If the Eagles get beat by the Niners this week or even if they win and go to Chicago and lose it is a topic that will live in Philly sports lore forever.
