I was listening to the first half in my car and Merrill asked Mike Quick about playing the starters in the second half. His response was interesting.

With no hesitation at all he said absolutely not. He said that guys need to go through their individual routines on game day. When pressed a little he said it’s not just the physical prep but the mental prep. He implied that they would be more prone to mistakes and possibly injury without the mental prep going into a game. Not sure how the backup players do it every week, but Quick was adamant that it was a bad idea.

I’ve heard that before that if they’re told they aren’t playing they really don’t prepare themselves. Some guys are told they aren’t playing getting limited snaps and so they can play. Davis I believe was limited. Some are told they aren’t playing only in if there is somebody hurt. Even Blankenship jumped up wanting to go in but they jockeyed around Carter rather than play him. It isn’t just rest it is all injury concern.
I am not a big fan of holding out everyone. Some like Blakenship and probably DeJean get offf on playing.

So then why were these guys that usually start dressed? I'm sorry Mike, but I just don't buy it.

You’re required to dress a certain number of players by NFL rule if I am not mistaken.
Also you can only live with so many injuries before someone would have to go in.
