  • My surprise cut this season..........

Jaiquawn Jarret. I've hit on quite a few of these over the years and I'm picking him. He's got bust written all over him and I just feel that we drafted too much talent to keep him around.

Hope you're wrong this time, but I fear that you may be correct.

Who have we added at safety that makes him so expendable? We didn't exactly load up at safety this offseason. I expect he's safe.

I thought about that too Fresh. He might make it through this year, but I think he makes too much money to sit on the bench next year. It will be a huge surprise to me if he's here very long.

True, Fresh. It's still early days, but there's been no buzz to speak of re: Jarrett. That's why I am only cautiously optimistic.

It is perplexing that AR and the FO brain trust having finally, FINALLY recognized that a sound defense actually requires some talent at LBer, would seem willing to go into another season pulling 4 safeties from a group that can best be described as either medical question marks, young 'hopefuls' who have been at best mediocre to date and/or totally raw rookies.

While I doubt Lurie will can AR unless the season is a dismal failure, you'd think Andy would have tried to bring at least one solid Safety (either SS or FS) on board to complement what otherwise appears to be potentially a very good defensive squad. I used to think we could trust AR's judgement...that he obviously knew better than us when he 'seemed' to be overly optimistic regarding guys that were expected fill crucial holes. Now I'm from Missouri.

Crazy isn't it T? Last year I was longing for Dwayne Wade and Dhani Jones.

Quinton Caver was my first pick and he was gone 2 weeks later. I was on a roll after that. I bombed last year with Grahm, but who knows how long he's going to be around?

                    Current safeties on the roster:

                    Allen (lock)
                    Coleman (very probable)
                    Jarrett
Colt Anderson (more special teams; I was thinking he'd be on the PUP list but maybe he's recovering)
Tom Nelson (played a couple years in Cincinnati, signed by Eagles in December, played a couple games on special teams -- Anderson's replacement really).
                    Philip Thomas (UDFA)

Basically... unless we sign a veteran, we probably keep Jarrett even if Thomas makes the team. He also won't save any money against the cap. If we do sign a veteran, it's probably between him and Jarrett making the team. Figure Nelson may make the team if Anderson is still on the PUP list and/or does not recover well, otherwise no. Anything's possible in training camp -- maybe Nelson actually shows something -- but I think it's a long shot Jarrett gets cut even if we sign a veteran. If we don't, he's a virtual lock I think.

Yup, I think you're right here Fair Fella. Maybe we get lucky and Jarret shows something this year. We sure all hope so!

I want to actually give a few props to Coleman. Guy has at least flashed and made some plays. We complain about guys under achieving, and Coleman has if anything over achieved. I don't know that he will ever be a great safety. his size doesn't help. But at least he gives effort and brings it, and if he can control his sometimes over-agressiveness, he's not the worst safety in the world, ya know?

I think we were all just hoping for Jarrett to prove that he has a higher upside. So far he's shown us nothing.

I think Coleman will be decent this season. We'll be OK if he and Allen stay healthy.

No, but he's safe for now, there are just zero alternatives.

I agree with you about Coleman, he gives you everything he's got. But it ain't much.
Don't kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you cared about!
