Re: Just back from the Linc

That may very well be true on every day of the week except game day at the stadium. We as fans are reacting to what's happening on the field in the present tense. I'm of the firm belief that had Considine batted that pass away at the end, most if not all of the fans would have been high fiving and doing Eagles chants and saying we are back. I don't think it would have been diminished at all due to previous years of futility. We may spend the week following a game putting it in some kind of historical perspective based on our previous experience, but not during the game. We are an emotional fanbase and react accordingly, it's only after the fact when we try to understand our emotional reactions that we catagorize things into the historical record. This is only my opinion, but it's certainly the way I view things. If you are to say that we are conditioned to expect a bad ending, how do you explain the large segment of the fan base that say things like "This is our year" (which we heard a whole lot of in 2004), when based on our previous experience we should expect them to say "It will never be our year". I also would point out that these kind of generalities are just that "generalities", there are as many different points of view as there are fans. But as to the original point of the thread, there is no way to know or say for sure that any of the fans at the game last week reacted one way or the other due to our historical futility and I can say for sure, that at the end of the game we were reacting to the scene unfolding directly in front of our eyes.
I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame
And every time I pass that way I always hear my name.
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand.
